You’re getting a new roof and you’ve made the decision to go with asphalt shingles. With today’s manufacturers offering what seems like a rainbow of different colors, how do you make the right choice for your home?

Making a decision to impact the exterior appearance of your home for the next twenty to thirty years is not easy. You may not have ever given any thought to the color of your roof before. The good news is there are things you can consider when making this important choice; factors that should at least help get you thinking in the right direction.

First, take a look at the structure of your home. Is it brick or frame? If it is brick, is the brick light or dark? If it is siding, what is its color? Next, consider the color of your home’s shutters and how they contrast against the color of the siding or brick. Finally, think about the color, texture, and any accents on your home’s front door.  Generally you should aim for a contrasting look between your home’s siding and its roof, and a color that complements its shutters and front door. Personal tastes and preferences, however, should always be taken into account first.
